Frequently Asked Questions
WHAT IS YOUR STYLE/APPROACH TO WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY?
While some photographers may seek to emulate a specific style in their photos, I tend to shoot in a less-obvious approach. This means I react to the moments throughout the day and create beauty where others may not notice it. A wedding day having so much busyness means that I have a large canvas on which to create my photographs.
To put it simply, my style is very documentary. Having done documentary photography in other countries, in many situations that are new and unfamiliar, I’ve gotten very comfortable with creating in environments that are unique. This makes me very quick on my feet and able to compose and shoot beautiful moments on the fly.
With my documentary approach, I lean into more natural methods of posing when the time comes for posed portraits. A wedding photographer wouldn’t be so competent without the ability to balance a documentary approach with posed moments, so I’ve adapted ways of posing my couples that still feel natural and less stiff.
DO YOU SHOOT FILM?
Yes, I love incorporating film into my wedding workflow. Film has such a beautiful tonality and color palette, and gives a certain emotional quality that is difficult to get from the digital images that we are used to seeing.
I shoot on my Leica M3, one of the most famous cameras ever made, and it is the camera that feels like an extension of my arm. I use the same exact lenses on this film camera as I do on my digital camera, so that contributes to more consistency between the film and digital images.
Another aspect of my love for film is that I edit my digital photos based on the color palette of famous film stocks. So this gives me a beautiful base to work with my digital files, and it also helps me achieve more color consistency between film and digital.
And hey, if you’d like your wedding shot entirely on film, I’d be all for it!
WHAT TYPE OF GEAR DO YOU USE?
I shoot Leica cameras for all of my work. This sets me apart from other photographers, who normally shoot Sony, Nikon, or Canon. Leica are known for their incredibly high end cameras and lenses and their meticulous approach to designing their products. My approach is very thorough, in that I believe in excellence in all things. Choosing Leica, for me, is trusting a company who also believe in excellence.
I shoot on a variety of lenses but primarily 40mm, 50mm and 90mm; when the situation requires I also use a 28mm or 135mm lens. If this doesn’t mean much to you, don’t worry! You can be confident that I have all the tools I need to create in every situation we come against.
I use flash when needed, especially on the dance floor which is one of my favorite times of the wedding day! I actually dance better with a camera in my hand. In other scenarios that require lighting, I prefer to bring ‘constant’ lights that can enhance the lighting of any space to ensure the photos look perfect.
WHAT’S INCLUDED IN YOUR IMAGE DELIVERY?
You can expect around 500-800 final edited images from your wedding, however with shorter weddings or fewer hours of coverage, that number may vary just a bit. I “shoot for package,” which basically means I get the coverage you request and ensure that you have all the images you’d expect from your coverage.
I use Pic-Time to manage my client galleries, so you’ll receive your images in a private gallery through Pic-Time. From there you can download your full-resolution images, and have the right to print as you like. However, you will also have the option of printing right from within the Pic-Time gallery for professional quality prints (and other products like calendars and greeting cards). Using this feature helps support me as well! A portion of the sale comes back to me as the photographer of your images.
